Elephant bush / Spekboom

Meet the ultimate easy-going green babe. The Portulacaria afra is a compact, succulent shrub with small, round, glossy leaves and thick, woody stems that give it that mini tree look. It’s perfect for bright indoor spots, desks, patios, or even styled as a bonsai if you’re feeling fancy. Low maintenance, drought-tolerant, and seriously good-looking—this one’s basically the cool, calm, collected plant friend we all need.

It also has the unique ability to absorb more carbon from the atmosphere than most other plants and it does so particularly efficiently.

Use the leaves in your salads for an interesting zesty taste.

Why you’ll love it

• Super low maintenance and thrives on a little neglect
• Perfect for bright indoor spaces or sunny patios
• Can be styled as a mini bonsai for a clean, elevated look
• Drought tolerant, making it ideal for busy plant parents
