Calathea rufibarba is a striking prayer plant with long, slender leaves that arch gracefully in every direction. Its deep green, rippled foliage has rich burgundy-purple undersides, while the reddish stems add even more colour and texture. It’s a beautiful choice when you want something a little different from the usual leafy houseplant.
With its soft, flowing shape and dramatic colouring, this plant makes a gorgeous feature in a bright, warm spot with plenty of indirect light. It enjoys higher humidity, so placing it on a pebble tray with a little water can help create the humid conditions it loves. Keep the water below the level of the pebbles so the pot itself isn’t sitting in water.
Why you’ll love it
• Dramatic green and burgundy foliage
• Long, beautifully rippled leaves
• Graceful, flowing growth habit
• A gorgeous statement plant for your home
Plant care:

Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate slightly lower light, but growth may slow and the beautiful colouring can become less pronounced. Avoid strong direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels slightly dry. Calatheas are sensitive to poor-quality or heavily mineralised water, so filtered, rain or distilled water can help prevent brown leaf edges.

Safe choice for homes with pets and small children.
